The Light
Timeline

Late 1993 Danny and Laura purchased the property at 675 Cates Lane.

Shortly thereafter, they sat down with internationally acclaimed house designer, Murray Arnott, to discuss their vision and ideas for the home. They spent about one year designing the home. Murray let the owners make many of the decisions during the design process, so that the home reflected quite a bit of their thinking. "These are two people who didn't compromise their vision."

Murray prepared a color rendering by hand.

Detailed plans were finalized November1994.

Construction commenced the Spring of 1995.

April 1995 - September 1995 Tim Reid built the framework in Squamish - using Western Red Cedar logs obtained from the Squamish area.

At the same time the land was being prepared: eighteen vertical feet was blasted off the rocky knoll June 1995 over a 3-week period.

The concrete foundation was laid by the end of August 1995.

In October 1995 the framework was erected by a crane on the site within less than three-weeks.

The home was framed throughout the Winter 1995/1996. The block structure for the fireplace was built as the same time as the roof.

The stonework on the fireplace was constructed by a stone-mason over a three-month period of Spring1996.

In July 1996 the staircase was built.

The family moved in August of 1996.
